Phuket Thailand is in the south of Thailand, called Phuket province. Located in the Andaman Sea, it is Thailand’s largest island. It is slightly larger than Singapore at 48 kilometers in length and 21 km across. Phuket has beautiful bays and inlets, palm-lined beaches, a scattering of nearby islands, warm and welcoming locals, and some of the best seafood in the world. Travelers will be pleasantly surprised by the verdant landscape, warm welcome, and delicious food.
Phuket is a big island, so many beautiful beaches surround it. Some of these are Rawai, Patong, Karon, Kamala, Kata Yai, Kata Noi, and Mai Khao. People say that the sunsets at Laem Phromthep are the best in Thailand.
It has the sixth-most number of people in any province, with 1.6 million people. Forests cover about 2.8 million square feet of the area. Today, rice farming is the main business. The average income is 14,343 Baht per person.
Early on, the island was part of different Tai states. Around the 16th century, it became part of the Ayutthaya kingdom. After the 18th century, a lot of Chinese people moved there. Now, more than half of the people living there are Chinese. Malays call the island Ujong Salang, which means “Cape Salang.” It has also been called Tongka, Junk Ceylon, and Jonsalam.
